Luderitz 2009

Luderitz is now recognized as the best speed sailing spot in the world for kitesurfing, with the wind in Luderitz blowing consistently, in the same direction, from August to March every year!

Why Luderitz?

Firstly, the wind in Luderitz is channelled through a range of high hills, that increases the velocity. Upon reaching the sand desert and combined with high daytime temperatures, the wind is amplified and creates an additional low-pressure ‘suction effect’. As a result, Luderitz benefits from very strong winds that are regular in direction and strength.  Perfect!

Secondly, the water at Luderitz is flat and shallow, with the speed course situated on an ocean lagoon, providing a course that is second to none.

Thirdly, the angle to the wind.  The ideal angle to the wind to reach very high speed in kitesurfing or windsurfing is to be around 140 degrees. This is the exact angle on the run in Luderitz...
